Welcome to the world of the small build envelopes of additive manufacturing (AM) with metals. Our Mlab cusing series is the smallest model of machines for LaserCUSING®. The Mlab cusing is the ideal entry-level model for additive manufacturing, in particular when it comes to small and delicate components with a special surface quality – as are found for example in medical technology, dental technology, and in the jewelry and watch sectors.

Its attractive footprint enables additive manufacturing in a very small space and delivers the highest quality standards and maximum safety. Additive manufacturing with the Mlab cusing – Freedom, precision and speed

The Mlab cusing series consists of the following models:

  • Mlab cusing (fiber laser with 100W laser power suitable for processing precious metals)
  • Mlab cusing R (fiber laser with 100W laser power – suitable for processing precious metals as well as reactive materials such as titanium or titanium alloys)
  • Mlab cusing 200R (fiber laser with 200W laser power – suitable for processing reactive materials such as titanium or titanium alloys and also dental materials)

The build envelopes of the Mlab cusing series have a modular structure. For each production assignment, you can change the build envelope if necessary. This allows you to stay flexible at all times. We have deliberately trimmed the three build envelope modules of the Mlab cusing series to cater for specific applications:

  • The build envelope 90 x 90 x 80 mm³ (x, y, z) is ideally suited for dental applications or small parts, e.g. in medical technology or the automotive sector. With dimensions of 70 x 70 x 80 mm³ (x, y, z), the second build envelope module is recommended for precious metal applications, along with the smallest build envelope 50 x 50 x 80 mm³ (x, y, z).
  • The Mlab cusing 200R similarly also boasts three build envelope sizes: 100 x 100 x 100 mm³ (x, y, z), 70 x 70 x 80 mm³ (x, y, z) and 50 x 50 x 80 mm³ (x, y, z).

 

Our compact Mlab cusing series offers a persuasive choice with its simple “plug and play” handling. All machine solutions have dimensions that allow them to fit through standard doors and they can easily be connected to the mains power. You can expect solid mechanical engineering “Made in Germany” with robust, low-vibration laser technology. Our high-quality components, high-precision axis systems and industrial PLC control ensure an outstanding service life for the metal laser fusing machine.

 

In the masterclass with the Mlab cusing 200R

The newly developed Mlab cusing 200R is our new flagship in the Mlab cusing series. It offers you a number of outstanding productivity features for the additive manufacturing of small parts:

  • A 23% larger build plate compared to the Mlab cusing / Mlab cusing R
  • A total of 54% more build volume for manufacturing larger components
  • A total of 54% more build volume for manufacturing larger components
  • Use of a 200W fiber laser for maximum productivity
  • Longer machine running time on average thanks to a larger filter
  • User-friendly display design

For precise positioning of the component, there is a standard clamping system and a non-twisting clamping system as an option. This much power and performance on a smart footprint is unique in this machine class.



 

 

Anything but ordinary - including maximum safety

With the Mlab cusing series you are choosing the best safety concept in the market. The machine and plant technology is consistently based on the strict ATEX safety directives. The Mlab cusing relies here on the separation of the process and the handling with a build module that can be moved out. An optional handling station allows safe, contactless handling of powder right through to the dust-protected removal of components. The operating principle is extremely practical and simple: The handling station is docked onto the machine for the loading and unloading process. The build module can simply be pulled out with the handling station thanks to the drawer principle. The handling station is then flooded with argon until the oxygen content approaches zero. The operator accesses the build chamber through protective gloves in order to carry out the loading process or to remove components. After the end of the process, the build module is pulled back into the machine and finally the handling station is undocked. All processes take place here under an inert gas atmosphere. The retractable drawer system is regarded as extremely user-friendly. Large, water-floodable filter modules complete the outstanding safety concept for processing reactive materials.

 

Superior data management and active process design

In our Mlab cusing series, a high-quality, powerful industrial PC with a fast SSD hard drive delivers the best performance. The focal point for the data handling is our pioneering CL WRX Control 2.0 software. It enables:

  • improved response times when operating the software
  • minimized waiting times when switching between components
  • minimized waiting times when shifting focus.

All in all, CL WRX Control 2.0 operates around 60% faster than the previous software and saves you a noticeable amount of time: before, during and after the build process.

Enhanced movement thanks to tried-and-tested peripherals with system character

Our tried-and-tested peripherals with a clever modular design, such as the handling station, sieving stations and transport trolleys, make it easier for users to do their daily work. Wall shelves and standing racks provide a secure place to store additional build modules. The transport trolley provides a secure way to transport the build modules. Rapid changes of powder along with easy powder handling give you crucial benefits in everyday production. Switching to an optimum build envelope for the particular application is also very straightforward.


 

Optimized exposure strategies

Optimized exposure strategies and efficient coaters made to measure

Our smallest series also boasts the full range of LaserCUSING® exposure strategies. Our continuous exposure is ideally suited to thin-walled applications. With the shell-core strategy, the segments of a component are exposed differently according to their geometry. For example, the outer shell of a component often requires a higher surface quality than the inside of the component. An optimized build rate can be achieved through a suitable combination of different exposure strategies. Overhanging component surfaces, known as downsides, can be exposed in such a way that support structures that would otherwise be needed can be omitted while still retaining the same surface quality and component stability. A similar situation is true for upwardly directed outer surfaces of components, known as upsides. They can be exposed separately in order to considerably minimize the roughness on the final component. Not least, the stochastic island principle delivers a significant reduction in stresses and the tendency to warping in the component. AM technology in a nutshell: Our coordinated exposure strategies provide you with a maximum level of component quality.

We offer you various coater blades for different applications:

  • Steel blades
  • Elastomer blades

A replacement blade system makes replacing blades easy and safe. In terms of the design, easy access to the coater has been considered with the Mlab cusing series. Easy and rapid insertion of the blade support without adjusting the height are among the other plus points of our coating concept. The Mlab cusing series offers you convenient operation with minimal set-up and downtimes and the maximum level of safety. 



QM Powder S

“Oxygen off” applies throughout the process – from the sieving station to the handling station

Efficient oxygen monitoring to prevent any contamination is an essential quality attribute of a laser fusing machine. The Mlab cusing series has a closed inert gas flow thanks to the integrated QM Atmosphere module with high-quality stainless steel pipes. QM Atmosphere analyzes and controls the oxygen concentration in the process gas and analyzes the filter status and flow rate. The gas flow is regulated via continuous volume flow monitoring which effectively prevents powder residue deposits. The filter modules can be replaced very quickly. To allow safe filter changes when working with reactive materials, the filter module on the Mlab cusing R and Mlab cusing 200R can be flooded with water.

For optimum powder quality, we also offer an inertized sieving station QM Powder S as an addition to the Mlab cusing series. As a stand-alone unit, this allows safe sieving to save time alongside the build process. The user can apply a variable number of sieves (1 - 3 units). A three-dimensional sieving motion also enables optimum utilization of the open sieve surface area.
