Innovation Award of the German Economy

Concept Laser and its industry partners Airbus and Laser Zentrum Nord were among the finalists in the “Large Enterprises” category, selected from among 320 entries, for their project entitled “The First 3D-Printed Titanium Component Onboard the Airbus A350 XWB”. Work on this ambitious project began eight years ago, with strong support from the Hofmann Innovation Group in the recent past.

In the eyes of the jury, this industry-spanning project is revolutionizing the way structural aircraft components are made and lightweight construction is implemented in civil aircraft.

In the final round, Concept Laser lost out only to BMW with its BMW i3 project, the first series vehicle that is fully electrically powered. Other finalists included Bayer MaterialScience AG and Voith Hydro Holding GmbH & Co. KG.

The Innovation Award of the German Economy, which was conferred on March 15, 2014, in a grand gala in Frankfurt, is the world’s first innovation award. For the 33rd time, the partners of the Innovation Prize honored the most important scientific, technical, entrepreneurial and intellectual innovations in Germany. The prize is sponsored by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research and the Federal Ministry of Economy and Energy.
